Ask For What You Want

Have you ever been in a situation where you wanted something from someone, they didn’t provide this thing, and you are subsequently not happy about it?  Maybe it’s a chore or some sort of work, maybe it’s a certain present, maybe they didn’t say something specific.  This happens a lot to us, where we expect something from another person but the other person was completely unaware that it was expected.  Whenever I hear clients upset with others, my first question is usually “what did you ask of them” and the answers can widely vary.  While it might sound nice if everyone around us could sense our thoughts, it’s likely not what we want.

Ask for what you want.  If you are disappointed in someone who was unaware what you wanted, choose to be thankful that they can’t read your mind, and create a partnership instead.
